This is one of my favorite learnings from spiritual teachings. I am never upset for the reason I think.

We are used to conceptualize everything we experience. If we feel upset, angry or sad our mind is instantly searching for a concept and an explanation. I am upset because…

You are never upset for the reason you think.

Often it is the outer circumstances, a certain situation or other people that our mind easily identifies as the culprits for our suffering and for being upset. Holding onto them often results in spreading the energies attached to the experience around or judging oneself for feeling the way we feel or trying to suppress the emotions. Starting to watch the stories our mind creates we can begin to deconstruct them and let go of them, step by step.

You are never upset for the reason you think.

Who would I be without this story in this moment?
What would I lose if I let go of my story?
What would I win if I let go of my story?
What is hiding behind my thoughts around the story?
Whom do I find there?

You are never upset for the reason you think.

Being upset is neither good nor bad, it is an emotional state and an invitation to explore and release it. When we learn to accept these states and do not suppress or judge them, we can start letting go of blocked energies associated with our experiences. We can learn to integrate and to heal them. The more we heal the more we contribute to peace within and with each other.

You are never upset for the reason you think.

It is such a gift to know there is another truth that is waiting to be discovered.
