During my continuing education in energy and consciousness medicine, there was this special partner exercise. The task was to ask your counterpart the following question: “Who are you?” And when the question is answered to ask again: “Who are you?” Again and again…until you get no more answers. This exercise can also be used over hours or days. Even in the shortened form in the context of my continuing education, I found it inspiring and also quite confusing.

When I was asked that question, I suddenly had no answer. I was silent. I didn’t know what to say. The words didn’t come easily from my lips, even though I had a lot to say I thought. “Who are you?” repeated my practice partner. I almost felt a sadness arise in me and a discomfort. I wanted to say something “sensible or smart”. So I started with: I am Marijana, I was born in Berlin. I have Croatian roots, we had a restaurant in Berlin, so that’s where I grew up. “Who are you?” Again this silence. What should I answer to this so simple sounding question? It even overwhelmed me. So I started to say something, probably something about my professional life. That’s what we learned, after all. About the professional career or the personal life – to build some kind of identity, with titles and experiences or even with material possessions. After this exercise, my partner said, “I really would have liked to know more about you.”

Change of partner. Now it was my turn to ask that question, and I felt a huge relief.

It’s been a few years since this experience and it may wonderfully lead to the introduction of a new blog series or even a new book. Let’s see where my thoughts take me. My ideas on this are about identities and identifications with so much, with the visible and invisible. And letting go of all this as well as the perceived differences – with and without. I’ll take you on a reflective journey to examine who you are, who you think you are, who you’d like to be, and who you may already be. I will talk to you directly from my heart and offer my own insights. I welcome you to join me.

Who are you?
